Sailing from Helsinki to Hanko in Finland

What an idyllic, remote, adventure in the Finnish archipelago on Mahi. Sian and Andy ensured enough comfort to make the whole experience joyful...sailing, anchoring, eating, foraging, swimming and kayaking.

Sailing from Gothenburg to Copenhagen

What can I say ! This week of sailing has been ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. Stepping on to the boat with wide eyes ,raised eyebrows and knocking knees, I walk off with relaxed shoulders and the biggest smile. Andy and Sian this is all down to you, you've been such wonderful hosts-you taught us so much and the reason weve been able to adsorb it all is down to your 'chilledness' . You let us get stuck in, gave us confidence and with that came hope and inspiration.
Too many highlights to mention but ocean swimming, archipelago viewing, kayaking, BBQing out at anchor, island exploration, museum visiting and GALE FORCE SEVENING are all up there !
Tasty food at each meal, varied and peppered with funny tails of your past adventures.
Thank you.

Sailing from Helsinki to Henko in Finland

What a wonderful week, Arriving on board everything was well organized and planned, Andy and Sian met us at the ferry terminal and helped carry the gear to the boat. With our gear sorted we explored the world heritage island of Suomenlinna Impressive forts and cannons everywhere. As the wind was still a little strong F6 the skippers (Andy and Sian) suggested that we stay for a night on the island and to head off early in the morning.
Sunday morning , as predicted the weather has calmed, and after breakfast we headed out into the archipelago. The sea was quite bumpy from the previous day but Mahi is a comfortable sea boat and handled the chop with ease, so well that simultaneously eating lunch and finding our sea legs was no problem for either Deborah or myself.
And so the cruise continued each day a lovely start with a proper breakfast, coffee and cake, lunch and afternoon tea all served al-fresco, with an early stop in a convenient and quiet anchorage or mooring. The food ashore in Finland, I thought was expensive and not very impressive. Certainly preferred the evening meals that we shared on Mahi, so thanks for preparing a varied menu, and cooking all that for us, especially interesting was the slow cooker and Tajin that I managed to miss! Next time I’ll do a curry if you will let me ?
I really enjoyed the Ekenas national park anchoarge where we all had an explore ashore in the forest following a trail. At one point there was an observation tower, upon climbing it the view was amazing, as far as the eye could see nothing but trees and water, no houses, buildings, or masts. Properly remote. Great to visit the old house and see how things were back in the day. How could they have lived with 11 children in such a remote place?
Sadly I had to cut my trip short for family reasons so jumped ship at Hanko to fly back to the UK.
One thing for sure I’ll be back again to share some more trips with you both.
Kind regards
Wilf

Sailing from Stockholm to Nykoping in Sweden

We had a great week with Sian and Andy on the Swedish archipelago. We met up in Stockholm & the journey out from the harbour was one of the highlights of the week. The next morning we were swimming and kayaking from the boat in an idyllic quiet bay, before heading off further down the coast. There was plenty of time for exploring onshore, as well as enjoying the culinary skills of our hosts! Sian and Andy were great company, and as someone who has never sailed before I can thoroughly recommend Remote Adventures to anyone thinking about giving it a try!

Sailing from Mem to Gothenburg across the Gota Canal in Sweden

Sitting in the idyllic Gothenburg harbour after crossing Sweden ! An excellent introduction to sailing/ touring and an inspiration to do much more ! Learnt how to sweet a rope and tieing up in endless lochs . I will never forget the wild swimming from remote anchorages! Lots learnt navigating and boat handling.
Thank you for a fantastic adventure - a taste of more to follow I hope.
